Why "Out of the Blue" for the name of the blog?

If you know me, you know that I can only stay focused on one thing for about 3 minutes. Every once in awhile I'll blurt something "out of the blue." Hence, the name of this blog. (It was my husband who thought of the name.) I initially wanted to name my blog "the blue room," a room in our house where all my creative juices flow (and is decorated mostly in the color blue). But, it was taken. After tossing out several names, I felt, in the end, "out of the blue" fits my thought process best. Chances are my blog topics will be out of the blue, not to mention off the wall.

This past year my life has been on an emotional roller coaster. Due to the economic downturn, I found myself looking for a new job, while asking the lifelong questions, "What do I want to be when I grow up? What's my next chapter?" I've been a print production artist/coordinator in the book publishing industry for over 20+ years. I've seen the industry change from front-end typesetting systems to desktop publishing. Now, everything is print and web out there or should I say rich-text media? But being a bookmaker doesn't define who I am.

I do know that I am a creative person. How can I take that creativity and make a living from it? I love to dance. I make handmade jewelry. I am a calligrapher. I enjoy building websites. I truly love book publishing. I've also rediscovered my love for American Sign Language. (Boy, am I rusty.) I have a dream of teaching deaf women how to bellydance. But wait, there's more. I've learned that I truly want to help people. I believe it's because my parents gave so much of themselves to others. But, where do I begin? Here's to new blog-ginnings!
